Timed Intercourse or
Home Insemination
What is it?
Like natural cycle monitoring, we perform ultrasounds and bloodwork to help predict ovulation in order to time intercourse or home insemination.
Cycle monitoring means bloodwork and ultrasound to track a growing follicle on the ovary and help predict when ovulation will occur. For timed intercourse, we will usually recommend having intercourse on 2 consecutive days when ovulation is expected. For those needing home insemination, we have kits available for you to take home. A nurse or doctor will also explain how the kit should be used.
Usually in cycle monitoring you will have 2-4 appointments in the first half of your menstrual cycle, before ovulation occurs. You may have 1 additional appointment one week after ovulation for confirmation.
How many appointments will I have?
How long are the appoint-ments?
Cycle monitoring appointments typically take 30 minutes to complete both the blood test and ultrasound.
For couples who have been experiencing infertility for greater than 1 year, the chance of pregnancy per month is approximately 5-10%.
